Staff from across the trust undertake RMTi training.
Enhancing Student Support Across HFCMAT with Rhythmic Movement Therapy Integration (RMTi)
At The Element, our dedication to student well-being inspires us to continually explore innovative ways to support learners. One of our most exciting recent initiatives has been the introduction of Rhythmic Movement Therapy Integration (RMTi). This ground-breaking approach is already making a difference in our schools, thanks in large part to the leadership of Isla O’Donnell, our Safeguarding and Pastoral Lead, who recently qualified as an RMTi Consultant and spearheaded the project.
Following a highly successful 12-week case study involving pupils across the HFCMAT, staff are now engaging in RMTi training to extend these benefits to more students.
What is RMTi?
RMTi, or Rhythmic Movement Therapy Integration, is a research-backed programme that uses rhythmic movements and reflex integration techniques to promote emotional, physical, and cognitive development. It is particularly effective for children facing challenges with focus, coordination, emotional regulation, and readiness to learn.

The 12-Week Case Study
Earlier this year, a 12-week pilot programme was conducted with selected students across HFCMAT schools. Led by Isla O’Donnell, this initiative delivered outstanding results. Teachers and staff observed:
- Improved Focus and Attention: Students were better able to sustain concentration and complete tasks independently.
- Enhanced Emotional Regulation: There were fewer emotional outbursts and increased resilience in coping with challenges.
- Better Physical Coordination: Movements became more controlled and fluid, improving both physical activities and daily tasks.
- Increased Confidence: Participants reported feeling more self-assured, both emotionally and physically, boosting their overall self-esteem.
This pilot highlighted the transformative potential of RMTi in addressing the underlying barriers to learning and personal development.
Scaling Success Across the Trust
Buoyed by the success of the case study, HFCMAT is now rolling out RMTi training for staff across its schools. This training will empower staff to:
- Identify and support students who can benefit from RMTi interventions.
- Deliver targeted therapy sessions to address specific developmental challenges.
- Share insights and best practices within their schools and across the wider Trust.
Isla O’Donnell’s Pioneering Role
The Trust owes much of the success of this initiative to Isla O’Donnell. As an RMTi Consultant, Isla’s expertise has been instrumental in both the design and delivery of the pilot programme. Her role as Safeguarding and Pastoral Lead has ensured that this initiative is integrated seamlessly into our schools, with student well-being always at its heart. Isla’s vision and dedication have laid the foundation for the wider rollout of RMTi across the Trust.
Looking Ahead
With more staff undergoing RMTi training, we are excited to expand the programme’s reach and deepen its impact on students. The 12-week pilot was just the start. By integrating RMTi into our toolkit, HFCMAT continues to demonstrate its commitment to nurturing the whole child—academically, emotionally and physically.
We are proud to be taking proactive steps to support our students, addressing challenges at their root and unlocking their full potential for success.
