Inclusion is the cornerstone of transformative education and The Element is leading the way with its innovative and compassionate approach. Acting as a lifeline for students requiring additional support, The Element is a dynamic environment where inclusion and personal growth are more than ideals—they are a daily reality. Guided by the dedicated Inclusion Team, this unique provision is transforming lives, one student at a time.
A Vision Rooted in Inclusion
At its heart, The Element is built on the belief that every young person, regardless of their challenges, has the potential to thrive. With restorative practices as their foundation, the team prioritises kindness, understanding, and resilience-building. By fostering trust, strong relationships, and a sense of belonging, The Element ensures that no student’s starting point defines their future.
The Element employs a “high challenge, high support” ethos, delivering bespoke strategies to address emotional, social, and academic needs. Whether through tailored interventions or close collaboration with families and external agencies, the goal remains constant: empowering students to achieve their best, reintegrate into mainstream education, or transition seamlessly into vocational opportunities.
A Purpose-Built Space for Growth
The Element operates across two specialised sites designed to meet the needs of different age groups:
- Secondary (KS3 & KS4): Maritime Knowledge Hub, Birkenhead.
- Primary (KS2): Holy Apostles and Martyrs Parish Church, Wallasey.
These spaces provide more than education—they are nurturing environments where students feel safe, valued, and inspired. Upon entry, each student undergoes a comprehensive academic and therapeutic assessment. Personalised plans are developed in collaboration with students and their families, setting clear targets to guide their journey. Progress is meticulously monitored, ensuring each student is fully supported.
Transforming Education Through Interventions
The Element’s curriculum is not just about meeting academic standards; it is about fostering resilience, creativity, and confidence. Central to their approach are innovative interventions, including:
- Rhythmic Movement Therapy (RMT): This cutting-edge therapy integrates gentle, reflex-based movements to address foundational challenges in the nervous system, promoting emotional balance and learning. A recent pilot demonstrated remarkable results, with significant improvements in student well-being after just 12 weeks.
- Therapy Outcome Measures (TOMs): This tool assesses progress across key domains, enabling staff to adapt interventions for maximum impact. It ensures that every strategy is tailored to meet individual needs.
Alongside these interventions, mentoring, counselling, and one-to-one support help students develop a resilient, “can-do” mindset. Partnerships with local businesses and organisations further enrich the curriculum, broadening horizons and preparing students for life beyond school.
Real Lives, Real Impact
The Element’s success is best reflected in the lives of its students. Here are just a few of their stories:
- Pupil A: A Year 9 student struggling with behaviour and engagement found stability at The Element. With 100% attendance and a renewed commitment to learning, she successfully reintegrated into mainstream education with a tailored support plan in place.
- Pupil B: A Year 11 student who faced severe trauma, including bereavement and domestic violence, discovered purpose and confidence at The Element. With improved attendance and vocational skills in Hair and Beauty, she is now on track to secure an apprenticeship while completing her GCSEs.
- Pupil C: A Year 2 student with behavioural and developmental challenges underwent RMT, resulting in improved self-regulation, social participation, and family life. His progress demonstrates the power of therapeutic interventions in unlocking a child’s potential.
- Pupil D: A Year 10 student diagnosed with ADHD and ASC transformed his behaviour, eliminating violent outbursts and excelling in academic and extracurricular activities. His participation in leadership programmes and sports initiatives reflects his newfound confidence and determination.
Looking Ahead: A Future Full of Opportunity
The Element is committed to building a brighter future for every student. Through continuous innovation, collaboration, and an unwavering belief in the potential of young people, their plans for the future include:
- Expanding vocational training and work experience opportunities.

- Strengthening community partnerships to provide enriched learning experiences.
By continuing to prioritise inclusion, resilience and opportunity, The Element is ensuring that every child feels valued, supported, and capable of achieving their ambitions.
